The Kansas Summer Flute Festival is a flute camp for students of all levels and abilities who are interested in improving their flute and music skills while having fun at the same time! Throughout the festival, professional flutists and educators, Annie Gnojek and Mary Fukushima, will work with the students on all aspects of being a better flute player including basic flute care and techniques, ensemble playing, and advanced lessons on breathing and articulation.


The 2008 Kansas Summer Flute Festival sessions will be held at the residence of Annie Gnojek: 521 Arizona St. in Lawrence, KS.


Session 1: Beginner session


July 7-12, 2008
10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Director's Recital - Friday, July, 11 7:00 p.m.
Very First Flute Recital - Saturday, July, 12 10:30 a.m.


Thinking about joining band next year? Spend a week making new flute friends and getting a head start on the school year. This fun introduction to the flute will teach fundamentals of:

  • flute assembly
  • flute care
  • tone production
  • reading music
  • rhythm
  • ensemble playing (duets, trios, flute choir)
  • concert etiquette

Students will be invited to attend the Director's Duo Recital and will perform in their very first flute recital!

Spend a week with Mary and Annie making music, friends, and having fun improving your flute playing. Expand your knowledge of:

  • ensemble playing (duets, trios, flute choir)

Additionally, all students will perform in the KSFF Honor Recital and be invited to attend the Director's Duo Recital.

Session 3: High School Level


July 14-19, 2008

KSFF Honor Recital - July, 19 2:30 p.m.


Spend a week with Mary and Annie making music, friends and having fun improving your flute playing. Get a head start on the District and State Honor Band music (Mozart Concerto in G) while refining your overall playing at the same time! Annie and Mary have performed the Mozart Concerti with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Fort Hays State Symphony Orchestra, Westchester Symphony, Torrance Symphony, and the Hunter Symphony.


The KSFF will focus on:

  • Mozart Concerto in G (District and State Honor Band audition music)
  • tone production
  • technique
  • articulation
  • breath support
  • ensemble playing (duets, trios, flute choir)

Additionally, all students will perform in the KFF Honor Recital and be invited to attend the Director's Duo Recital.
